Rank Math vs Yoast SEO (2027): Which One Should You Pay For?

Compare what Rank Math and Yoast offer for free, what their subscriptions add and how site ownership, renewals and AI services change the buying decision.

Start with Rank Math Free if you want redirects and several SEO tools without a subscription. Consider Yoast Premium if your team will use its editorial assistance, included specialist plugins and official support. Pay for Rank Math PRO when its advanced schema and reporting solve a specific job across sites you own. For client projects, compare the appropriate business licence instead.

That is the useful answer to Rank Math vs Yoast: the better purchase depends on the work you need done. Neither paid plugin is a prerequisite for a small site to publish searchable pages, and moving from one to the other does not create a ranking advantage by itself.

2027 buying guide: based on developer plans and documentation available in late 2026. Prices and features may change. This comparison analyses the documented offers; it does not include performance testing.

Rank Math vs Yoast Free: establish whether you need to pay

Both free plugins cover the essentials: page titles, meta descriptions, canonical URLs, XML sitemaps and structured data. Their writing checks help you review a draft; they do not tell you how Google will rank it. See the developers' descriptions of Rank Math Free and Yoast SEO Free.

The practical difference is how many supporting jobs each free plugin takes on.

Rank Math's focus-keyword documentation explains that connecting a free account enables five focus keywords. These are internal analysis inputs; they are not keywords submitted to Google. Entering more phrases can help you review related aspects of an article, but it does not multiply its ranking potential.

Yoast's single free focus-keyphrase field can be sufficient when a writer needs to answer one clear search intent. Its readability analysis gives feedback on writing, including sentence and paragraph construction. Treat that feedback as an editing aid. A useful technical term should not disappear merely to improve a coloured indicator.

For a small brochure site, either free plugin may be enough. Set sensible indexing rules, write useful titles, connect Search Console directly and check the pages you publish. Upgrade when you can name the missing feature and explain how often somebody will use it.

Rank Math PRO vs Yoast Premium: compare the work, not the feature count

Choose around the person maintaining the site

Rank Math's Free versus PRO comparison lists advanced schema tools, reusable schema templates, rank tracking and deeper reporting among the paid capabilities. Those are useful reasons to evaluate PRO when one maintainer manages several sites and will actively inspect the settings and reports.

For example, a publisher with recurring content types might benefit from maintaining a reusable schema configuration. The value comes from applying the right information consistently. It does not come from adding more schema types to every page. Start with a representative page and confirm that the generated data matches the visible content.

Yoast Premium is more compelling when editorial work is the bottleneck. Its current Premium package combines internal-link suggestions, redirect management, additional keyphrase analysis, official support and Academy access. It also includes Local, Video and News SEO plugins and one Google Docs add-on seat. Older comparisons that treat all those specialist plugins as extra purchases can misrepresent the current offer.

Imagine a business publishing new service pages every week. Writers need help connecting related pages, while an editor handles renamed URLs and checks neglected content. Yoast's workflow can justify payment if the team actually uses it. A site publishing a few pages a year has a different calculation.

For deeper single-product coverage, read our Rank Math PRO review and Yoast SEO Premium review. This comparison focuses on which arrangement is worth buying.

Compare store features against the right package

Do not assume that a base subscription includes every ecommerce tool. Yoast has a distinct WooCommerce SEO package, which includes Premium and adds product-focused features. Rank Math offers basic WooCommerce support in Free and additional capabilities in its paid comparison.

Write down the actual requirement: product structured data, product-content analysis or a particular catalogue workflow. Then compare that requirement against the relevant bundle. A long list of general SEO tools cannot establish whether a specific store task is covered.

Rank Math vs Yoast pricing: annual cost, renewal and site ownership

Monthly-looking prices need a second look. The offers below are annual subscriptions. Rank Math's monthly figures are equivalents multiplied by twelve; Yoast's official WooCommerce Marketplace listing confirms annual billing for its Premium offer.

The Rank Math pricing page displayed euros during our check; Yoast Premium displayed US dollars. We preserve those currencies rather than invent an exchange-rate comparison. These are current reference prices, excluding taxes, rather than guaranteed 2027 quotes.

Official offerFirst annual charge shown or calculatedAnnual renewal referenceSite scope
Rank Math PRO€95.88€107.88Unlimited wholly owned personal sites; excludes client sites
Rank Math Business€299.88€335.88Up to 100 client sites
Rank Math Agency€659.88€779.88Up to 500 client sites
Yoast SEO PremiumUS$118.80Recheck the renewal quote; no permanent price lock assumedOne site per subscription; bulk arrangements available

For Rank Math PRO, the displayed €7.99 monthly equivalent produces a €95.88 annual initial charge. Its €8.99 renewal equivalent produces €107.88. If that renewal rate remains unchanged, three years cost €311.64 before tax: €95.88 + €107.88 + €107.88. Optional AI purchases are excluded from that calculation.

This is a budgeting scenario, not a three-year price guarantee. Yoast's subscription terms likewise permit subsequent price changes with notice. Compare the amount due today, the stated renewal and any extra service you enable.

Personally owned websites on one side and separately owned client websites on the other

Several sites you own are different from several clients

An owner with three personal sites can evaluate Rank Math PRO across those sites. A freelancer maintaining three client businesses cannot treat the same personal-site offer as a client licence. Rank Math's licence selection guide explains the ownership distinction; for official paid client coverage, start with Business or Agency as appropriate.

Yoast's per-site approach means you should request the actual multi-site quote rather than multiply the single-site headline price and call it the final bill. Bulk discounts and agency arrangements can change the result.

Include maintenance effort in the decision. Existing settings, writer familiarity and the time required to validate a migration are real costs, even if you do not assign them an invented hourly value. A small subscription difference may be a weak reason to replace a working setup.

AI tools introduce another billing decision

Rank Math's paid SEO plugin and its paid AI service are separate subscriptions. The current umbrella is Rank Math AI, which includes Content AI. Buying PRO should not be read as buying unrestricted AI access indefinitely.

The developer's Content AI FAQ describes a 15-day AI trial accompanying paid SEO purchases. Its AI plan guidance explains that the trial can lead to an annual AI charge and can be cancelled during the trial to avoid that charge. Review the additional subscription rather than budgeting only for the SEO plan.

Yoast Premium includes AI tools with an active subscription, subject to usage limits. You do not need the separate Yoast SEO AI+ bundle merely to access ordinary Premium AI metadata features; AI+ adds a different proposition, including brand monitoring.

Decide what you expect AI to do. Drafting alternative descriptions is different from tracking how a brand appears in AI answers. Buy against a defined task and usage allowance. Whichever service you choose, a person still needs to check generated claims and whether the description accurately represents the page.

Installable plugin files separated from cloud, support and AI service symbols

Can a GPL package be the better purchase?

A third-party GPL package can be worth considering when you need plugin functionality and have a clear update and maintenance arrangement. It is a different offer from an official developer subscription. Evaluate it against the local features you need, then check which connected services are actually included.

That distinction is concrete with these products. Rank Math's AI service depends on its separate subscription. Yoast's expiry guidance says an installed premium plugin can continue to be used after expiry, but updates, downloads and support require renewal; AI and word-form recognition require an active subscription. A downloadable archive does not, by itself, establish access to those account services.

An official subscription has a clear advantage when the feature you are buying is the developer's AI service or direct support. A GPL supplier may offer a practical route for the required plugin files and its own maintenance services, but check the actual product listing. Do not assume vendor support, automatic vendor updates or cloud allowances transfer with the ZIP.

GPL and “nulled” also describe different issues. Read our GPL versus nulled explanation for the terminology and our GPL updates and support guide for service arrangements. The relevant purchase question here is whether the offer delivers the particular functions and maintenance your site needs.

Already using one? Validate the switch before replacing it

Keep a working plugin unless the replacement solves an identifiable problem. Having more settings available is a weak reason to rebuild indexing rules that already work.

Both developers provide import guidance: Yoast to Rank Math and Rank Math to Yoast. An importer is a starting point. It is not evidence that every custom schema, redirect or global setting transfers exactly as intended.

Before switching, take a recoverable backup and validate a staging copy. Select a homepage, an important article, a product if relevant, an archive and a URL with an existing redirect. Record their current behaviour, then compare after the import:

  • SEO titles and meta descriptions, including templates and manual overrides.
  • Canonical URLs and index/noindex directives.
  • Redirect destinations and response codes.
  • Structured data against the visible content.
  • Sitemap contents and the inclusion of important URLs.
  • Content blocks or integrations that depend on the original plugin.

Use one plugin to handle overlapping SEO output. Follow the destination developer's deactivation and import sequence, inspect the result and keep the backup until the important pages behave correctly. A completed import progress bar is not a substitute for that comparison.

Which one should you pay for?

For a new site with a limited budget, start free. Rank Math is a strong starting point when redirects and a 404 monitor are useful. Yoast Free is a reasonable choice when its writing feedback suits the person publishing. Spend time making the site useful before purchasing reporting you will not read.

For several sites you personally own, evaluate Rank Math PRO. Its ownership-based coverage and advanced tools can make sense if you will use them. Include the renewal and any optional AI subscription in your budget.

For an editorial team already comfortable with Yoast, evaluate Premium around its workflow. Internal linking, redirects, the included specialist plugins and official services may justify keeping the team in a familiar environment.

For client work, request the right licence and quote. Compare Rank Math Business or Agency with Yoast's actual multi-site offer. Decide who owns the subscription, pays renewals and handles support after handover.

For a GPL purchase, choose by the required feature and service access. The right package can reduce the cost of obtaining plugin files; a required developer-hosted service may still justify the official plan. Write down the feature you need, the update source and the person responsible for maintenance. Buy the offer that meets those requirements.
